Writing Speeches/Presentations
With
Elsie Walker

Do you need to give presentations at work?  Or, are you looking for a new skills set to add to your freelance portfolio of services? In this course, we’ll talk about writing three types of speeches;  narrative, informative and persuasive.  Whether learning how to write a speech for someone else or yourself, this course will give you the insight and boost you need to make your words count

The goal of this course is in to introduce students to the mechanics of speechwriting. I'll discuss the basic format of a speech and what goes into creating the three different types of speeches: Narrative, Informative, and Persuasive. Through homework, students will  look at some famous speeches to get a feel for some of the wording techniques used. Also, they'll get a chance to practice some skills by writing three short speeches. In addition, I'll talk about PowerPoint, a presentation graphics software package that can be used to create visual aids and handouts to go with speeches/presentations. Other topics addressed in the class will include audience, things to consider when writing speeches for others, and what Toastmasters Internationals can do to help speechwriters to hone their skills.
